Ciutadella constitutes its first City Council

Ciutadella constituted its first City Council last Wednesday, a new tool for debate and citizen participation, becoming the third city in Spain to have such a committee, after Barcelona and Vic.According to the Councillor responsible, Maite Salord, it will be invaluable to the Town Council which will be able to assess the topics that concern citizens and will "generate collective debates on themes that affect each and every one of the people living in our city".

Representatives from different bodies took part in the City Council meeting during which the main lines of work were drawn up.

Orfeons apply to sing in Royal Albert Hall

The Orfeón Mahonés has set up an initiative to urge all music fans to take part in the popular concert to be held on 27th November this year at the Royal Albert Hall in London, in which they will sing Handel's "Messiah". This is a concert in which the orchestra and soloists are professionals but the body of the choir is composed of amateurs.

Anyone interested has until 15th March to put their name down and if it is oversubscribed it will be 'first come, first served'. Pons Sans is arranging the trip which will leave here on 25th November and return on 28th and include travel arrangements and accommodation.

The popular concert has been held at the Royal Albert Hall since 1974 and last year attracted 3,692 amateurs, including the man behind the scheme, Carlos Coll.

Red Arrow road manager on "recce"

Squadron Leader Graeme Bagnall, the Red Arrow's Road Manager, is due to arrive in his Hawk aircraft this afternoon for a fleeting visit during which he will "recce" the area ready for the team's display on 25th May.

"Menorca without Hunger" campaign

In October the Rotary Club Mahón-Maó started its second "Menorca without Hunger" campaign in which it has so far collected 1,700 kgs. of basic foods (oil, milk, rice, sugar, pasta, jams and pulses). The last collection was at the Hiper Centro supermarket in Maó, where customers donated 350 kgs. of items.

Electronic information at Maó Bus Station

Two electronic boards have been installed at the Bus Station in Maó to provide up to date information on routes, destinations and times. There is also a board which displays the next ten departures and panels have been fitted in each bay showing the departure time and destination of the next bus.
