Final day of Copa del Rey cancelled due to weather

Some fifty classic boats and around 400 crew members bade farewell to the island after participating in the Copa del Rey-Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge held in the port of Maó last week. The event should have lasted three days but the weather conditions on Saturday (a northerly wind with gusts of up to 30 knots and a heavy swell) forced the final day's sailing to be abandoned.

The trophies were therefore presented to the yachts and crews in the lead at the end of the second day's trials, the winners being: 'Yanira' in the Classic group; Mercury in Vintage (Marconi rig); Kelpie in Vintage (Gaff-sail); Calima in Spirit of Tradition; and Cambria in Big Boats.
