On Tour. The group with the amphibious "Yellow Duckmarine" - EOI

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to visit Liverpool with the Escola Oficial d'Idiomes.

On the first day, after we'd settled into the hotel, we went to Albert's Dock. This is where we took the "Yellow Duckmarine", a sort of combined bus and boat. A guide told us about the city as we moved around it. After the tour, the bus transformed into a boat and went into the water. It was a really touristic experience and we laughed a lot, the guide had a really British sense of humour, telling typically English jokes all the time. Then we had free time until dinner and everybody did what they wanted.

We all met up in the city and decided to go to a buffet in a Chinese restaurant. There were plenty of people, as usual, and the food was quite good. After dinner almost all of us went to a pub opposite the restaurant. I couldn't believe it, it was really full, with lots of people drinking and dancing. The girls wore summer clothes, even being quite cold, and some of them had rabbit's ears on their heads.

The next morning we took a bus with a guide and visited a lot of places to do with the Beatles and their lives: their houses, where they grew up, their first club etc. It was a nice tour because we saw a lot of things we wouldn't normally have visited. After the tour we ate in a pub. It was awful because the waiter and waitress weren't very polite. Perhaps it was stressful giving lunch to a huge group of people at such an unusual time for lunch in England, as it was 3 pm.

In the afternoon we had free time to go shopping. We found a big store called Primark, where clothes are really cheap. The quality isn't very good but it's a good place to buy basics such as t-shirts and socks. By the end of the day I was exhausted.

Some of us had dinner in a Japanese restaurant and the rest of us went to an Italian restaurant nearby. The Japanese where I went was very nice, and full, of course. The only thing was that we had to wait a while. The British dinner timetable is history since we started at more or less 9 o'clock in the evening and there were still people arriving even then. The food was good and we watched a show. Three cooks appeared before us, banging on pots and pans. After that, they sang happy birthday to somebody. It was funny because after that it was as if every table was having a party, but by the end we were fed up with it. They also cooked in front of us, but before this the cook did his own performance using knives, eggs and various other kitchen tools. Then he lit the grill which burst into a huge flame. He threw a potato at each of us, trying to reach our mouths. The whole thing cost 24 pounds. After this I went to bed, but some people took advantage of Liverpool's night life. They visited "The Cavern", where the Beatles first played together.

The next day was very cold and we took a train to Manchester. I was pleasantly surprised. It's a nice town and has an interesting history. We visited a really beautiful library. It was as if it had come out of a Harry Potter film.

At night we had dinner in a Chinese restaurant again, in China town, this time, but in this case, the food wasn't very good. After that I went home.

The next day, we took a train to Chester. It's a beautiful town, or rather a village with ancient buildings, a river and a lot of shops and stores. We spent all day there and returned to Liverpool at 7 o'clock in the evening.

It was the last night and we had to wake up at 3.30 in the morning so we decided to have dinner in the hotel. Each person took their own food away with them. My group decided to order a pizza on the way to the hotel because we didn't want to go back to have food. At 9 o'clock we met in the kitchen. By 10.30pm I was in bed.

In the morning everybody woke up in time and we took the bus to Manchester Airport. It took about an hour. While we were waiting to board, we found out that the volcano had erupted again and some flights had been cancelled, but nothing bad happened and the plane took off on time.

I enjoyed it very much. And I have to say that the teachers get 10 out of 10 for their management because they organized everything very well.
