A paleontologist from Ciutadella, Josep Quintana, will see his work published early next year. The magazine "Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology" will reveal the findings of Josep's dedicated work in the Punta Nati area of north west Menorca.

By using up to 120 litres of vinegar to dissolve the red clay in which they were embedded, he managed to unearth bones. The bones supply evidence of a giant rabbit, some eight times larger than today's specimens, that lived in the Pleiocene Era more than 3.6 million years ago. The metre long femur of a giant tortoise confirms that other species were also notably larger.
